REVIEW: The All-New 2019 Volvo S60

600 × 335

Volvo has long been known for building safe, luxurious vehicles but, in years past, sporty wasn't a word often used to describe them.  A few years back, Volvo set about changing that perception and with the All-New 2019 S60 sedan, has done just that.

For many consumers and automotive experts, the name Volvo is very much associated with safety and the S60 carries on that legacy.  For starters, the S60 envelopes passengers with an ultra-high strength Baron steel frame.  Volvo also makes its City Saftey suite of features available on the S60. City Safety uses a combination of radars and cameras to detect everything from other motorists, to a cyclist, to pedestrians,  and even larger animals.  In the event the driver does not recognize one of the obstacles in time, the system will help apply the brakes.

Some of the many other available safety features include Active Bending Lights,  Blind Spot Information System and Cross Traffic Alert, Oncoming Lane Mitigation, Pilot Assist – Semi-Autonomous Drive System w/ Adaptive Cruise Control and more.

Technology and Entertainment
Once again, Volvo did not disappoint when it comes to the technology and entertainment options on the S60.  Beginning with an available large 12.3-inch digital driver display and a 9-inch center console Sensus Touchscreen display.  The Sensus 9-inch display is so advanced that it comes with non-reflective screen coating and the ability to recognize commands even if the operator is wearing gloves.

Now that you know how you will control the infotainment, let’s talk about what goodies you will be able to enjoy.  Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard on the S60 along with Bluetooth connectivity.  Also available on the S60 is a magnificent Harman Kardon premium sound system, Sensus Navigation, Voice control and much more.

We teased performance at the beginning of this review, and now it's time to tell you why.  For 2019 Volvo has made three amazing engines available on the S60.

First on the list is the T5.  This engine is a 2.0 liter, turbocharged in-line 4 that generates a healthy 250 horsepower and 258 lb/ft of torque.  Volvo’s second engine known as the T6 ads an additional turbocharger and ups the Horsepower to 316 and adds all-wheel drive.  Volvo’s S60 T8 configuration adds a plug-in hybrid system and generates an eye-popping 400 horsepower and 472 lb/ft of torque.

It's easy to see why the All-New 2019 Volvo S60 is receiving so much attention.  For an up close and personal look at this fantastic sports sedan visit Capital Volvo in Albany today!
